Celebrate 30 Years of Warhammer 40,000: Top 5 Explorers

The Warhammer 40,000 universe is a terrifying place where even your own mind is no refuge against the myriad horrors of the galaxy. Despite this, it’s also packed with adventurers and glory seekers who willingly travel to the dark corners of space in search of treasure, fame, mysterious artefacts or simply inner peace. Our Top 5 today focuses on these intrepid explorers:

5: Freebooterz

While most Orks are totally content with a life of mindless violence as part of a larger clan, some strive for individuality (or just fancy a bigger share of the post-battle loot). These Orks become Freebooterz, roaming bands of pirates who hire their services to Orks across the galaxy. Many Freebooterz end up as Flash Gitz, armed with colossal looted weapons.

4: Rangers

The life of the Craftworld Aeldari is rigidly regimented, designed to focus their minds and protect them from the predations of Slaanesh. Some, however, walk their own path and become Rangers, exploring the universe in tight-knit warbands while performing vital reconnaissance for their Craftworlds.

3: Inquisitors

Whether they serve the Ordo Malleus, Ordo Xenos, Ordo Hereticus or one of the more esoteric ordos, Inquisitors travel far and wide in pursuit of their duty, hunting particularly obstinate heretics, sinister plots or powerful artefacts. The Inquisitorial seal permits an Inquisitor unobstructed travel anywhere within the Imperium, while their individual strengths assure they are unopposed outside of it.

2: Adeptus Mechanicus Explorators

Innovation is all but forbidden in the Imperium, and “new” technologies are based on the STC (Standard Template Construct) patterns found by the Adeptus Mechanicus. It is the role of explorators to seek the ruins of ancient human civilisations in the search for archaeotech to aid the wider Imperium and bring them closer to the Omnissiah.

1: Rogue Traders

While the Imperium may be on the brink of devastation, its borders continue to expand thanks to the tireless efforts of Rogue Traders, privateers who discover long-isolated civilisations of humans, locations of new or long-lost resources, and alien worlds ripe for some Imperial purging. Rogue Traders rarely travel alone and sometimes employ the Astra Militarum and even Space Marines in their retinues.
