The Design Studio is going to one of the world’s biggest gaming events next year! Jes Bickham – Studio Writing Manager – tells us a bit about it…
Jes: It has been what can only be described as a crazy year in the Design Studio. If you’ve watched Eddie and Rob’s review of 2016 video from the other day you’ll have seen just how many books and games we’ve released alongside a belief-beggaring host of stunning Citadel miniatures – a lot! From Fyreslayers to Wulfen to Sylvaneth to Genestealer Cults and more, we’ve worked long and hard to give you, our customers, the best of the best for Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar and beyond. (And believe us when we say we’ve only just begun. 2017 is going to be even bigger and better!)
We’re also modelers, painters, and gamers, just like you, and even though we’ve spent long, hectic months making all these products, we’re as excited as anyone when they make it out into the real world. Which is why a contingent of us have taken the plunge to go to the mighty Adepticon – one of the biggest, most legendary annual events in the wargaming calendar, stuffed full of different types of tournaments for all sorts of games – in March 2017. Myself, Ben Johnson, Pete Foley and Robin Cruddace from the Design Studio will be descending on Chicago to play games, give talks and meet like-minded hobbyists and gamers.
Over the four days of the event (which last year hosted over 3,000 people!) we’ll be running a series of seminars on subjects such as Warhammer Age of Sigmar, writing rules and what it’s like working in the studio, and there might even be one or two surprises to reveal too. Check out www.adepticon.org to find out more and see where we’ll be.
We’ll also be taking part in the Warhammer 40,000 Team Tournament to test our gaming mettle against the best Warhammer 40,000 players in the world, and have a right old laugh to boot. (Full disclosure: Ben’s day job has him absorbed in the Mortal Realms from dawn to dusk, but he has pledged to become ‘the world’s foremost expert on Warhammer 40,000’ by March 23rd… If you end up playing against him, you will be eminently placed to be the judge of that!) Think you can beat us? Well, you probably can, but we can assure any potential opponents of a great gaming experience full of fun and beautifully-painted miniatures at the very least.
We can’t wait to get to Adepticon and celebrate the best of our hobby and games with you all, and so we’ll be running regular ‘Road to Adepticon’ features here on the Warhammer Community website in the run-up to the event in March. You’ll be able to see us prepare our armies, read about what we’ll be doing at the event in more detail, and what we’re hoping to get from the experience. Stay tuned here for more posts, and don’t forget to check out www.adepticon.org for all you need to know about the event… and we’ll hope to see you there!
