The Story of Warhammer 40,000 2016 – Top 5 Events

40k-header

Warhammer 40,000 has had an amazing year.

New armies new, new boxed games, and incredible new miniatures.

But it is perhaps the narrative events that took place this year that will be remembered most, and have the greatest impact on the future of the Dark Millennium.

Here are our top-5 game-changing events that took place in the Warhammer 40,000 narrative this year.

5) The Wulfen Emerge from the Warp!

Way back in February, the lost 13th Company of the Space Wolves began to re-emerge across the galaxy. This appearance was the beginning of a chain of events that would shake the 40k setting to it’s core…

4) The Cults Rise!

The Genestealer Cults, long dormant, rose across the Imperium. Worlds were plunged into disorder, diverting vital resources away from the battle against Chaos … and delicious biomass into the path of the Tyranid Hive Fleets.

3) Eldrad clashes with the Deathwatch

The most powerful seer of the Eldar race foresaw a way to avert the doom of his people and set the pieces in motion to enact that future. The Deathwatch had other plans, though, and the machinations of Ulthwe’s greatest psyker were foiled by a force led by Watch Captain Artemis and the elite brothers of a dozen Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes.

2) The first battles of the Black Crusade

Khârn led the charge in one of the first battles of the 13th Black Crusade, as the Black Legion, Crimson Slaughter and World Eaters fought against the Adeptus Mechanicus and the angelic hosts of the Blood Angels.

That was just the beginning though, and now Traitor Legions pour from the Eye in numbers never before seen.

1) The Crimson King Returns!

But of course, the biggest event of the last year for Warhammer 40,000 was the return of Magnus the Red.

A Daemon Primarch returning to the galaxy is a huge deal for the setting – and that Daemon Primarch is Magnus, a devotee of Tzeentch whose labyrinthine plans are second only to the Lord of Fate himself, which means that we have almost certainly not seen the full implications of his return played out yet…

Ahead to 2017…

Last year was great, but next year is going to be even better.

2017 marks the 30th anniversary of the Warhammer 40,000 setting, and to celebrate, we have the best narrative in 40k history, which will set the scene for the next 30 years of the setting.

It begins in January with the Gathering Storm.
